For her educational background, Joya attended the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2006. While at the school she was the recipient of a number of awards and scholarships such as the Dermatology Service Award for her research on Malassezia otitis externa and for her aptitude in clinical dermatology.
Immediately after graduating Highschool Joya went to the CA Berwyn and Aurora Animal Hospitals in Chicago, Illinois where she completed her Internship. During this period she received the intern “Abstract Award” for her presentation on Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus.
In 2007 she returned to Cornell University for a residency in Dermatology. She served one year as an instructor of dermatology and had the privilege of teaching fourth-year clinical students as well as lecturing to underclassmen on immune-mediated and bacterial, fungal, skin diseases after she completed her residency.
In 2010 she became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology and has a special interest in fungal and immune-mediated skin disease as well as feline dermatology.

Griffin is a wife, a mother, a veterinarian, a lover of fun, sunshine, fashion, and sometimes running. There are many things she loves, but she has always loved animals. From the tender age of 7 after adopting our first cat Chessie, she knew she wanted to be a veterinarian.
She wanted to care for the creatures that could not care for themselves. She would take in neighborhood strays, raise tadpoles and watch my cats deliver their kittens within our home. Becoming a veterinarian seemed a natural fit forher, however, it was never just about the animals. She wanted to help people like herself who deeply cared for their pets get the best care they could.
Veterinary dermatology has been one of her greatest joys. She chose to pursue it very early on in veterinary school after seeing how the talented doctors at Cornell took her beloved family dog Gizmo and changed her life. The Dog was hairless, stinky with ulcerations on her face. She lived in an e-collar because of how severe her skin was.
