Mats Hovkland is wll known as Viktor Hovland’s only Brother and Sibling. His Brother Hovland was the first Norwegian to win on both the PGA Tour and the European Tour (at the 2020 Puerto Rico Open) (at the 2021 BMW International Open). Hovland won the 2020 and 2021 Mayakoba Golf Classics, his second and third PGA Tour victories. He also won the 2018 United States Amateur.
Hovland finished three under par in a tie for 32nd place at the 2019 Masters Tournament. With this performance, he ascended to the top of the World Amateur Golf Ranking. He finished 12th in the 2019 US Open and was the low amateur with a score of 280. This was the lowest 72-hole score by an amateur in the US Open, breaking Jack Nicklaus’s 1960 record of 282.
He became the first player since Matt Kuchar in 1998 to win low amateur honors at both the Masters and the US Open in the same season.
